Joy Students Learn The Art of Coding
This is the image for the news article titled Joy Students Learn The Art of Coding The John Joy Coders have been hard at work with Mrs. Urbanik since February, working on lots of projects. Many of these fourth graders started with Mrs. Urbanik last year as part of an after school program and were excited to have the opportunity to continue their work this year.

The students have worked on the website: scratch.mit.edu. The students have developed games on scratch.mit.edu, working together in pairs and individually. They created mazes with obstacles. Players in the mazes could score points by picking up objects (like pac man). They also worked with makey-makeys and made their own “Operation” game, where the Joy coders had to build the game and program it using scratch.mit.edu and the makey-makey board. Another project our students worked on was to create a virtual pet that they had to feed, play with and walk. Coders also created a two player basketball game, using control keys and keyboard keys.
